Reese Donahue, a defensive lineman for the WVU football team, scored big over the weekend. Not only did the Mountaineers score a big win over Kansas on Saturday that landed them at No. 6 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll, he shared a special moment in his life when he proposed to his girlfriend, now fiancee Sarah Moore, at midfield while “Country Roads” was playing over the loudspeakers of the stadium.
The ring Donahue proposed with was on the sideline throughout the game, with State Trooper Freddie Little in possession.
“Once the game started to get toward the end, my eyes started to widen and it started to get real,” Donahue said, via WV Metro News. “I don’t think she had a clue, though, at least I hope she didn’t. It went about as well as I hoped.
“I had all these thoughts about what I was going to say and, of course, none of it came out that way. She was crying, she was so happy. She knew that it was coming within the next couple of months but I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do it.”
Donahue and Moore met three years ago while he was on a visit to West Virginia and she was on the gymnastics team.
The rest was history for the couple.
