Florida Football: Jim McElwain Not Naming Starting QB Yet

It appears as if the race to the top of the depth chart in The Swamp is going to be a photo finish. With three players that could conceivably lead the Florida football team in 2017, coach Jim McElwain is going to take his time naming a starter.
Despite the fact that the season is nearly a week away from kicking off, he isn’t feeling any pressure to make a decision.
On Wednesday, he reiterated as much.

“The competition has really brought out some good things,” McElwain said on Wednesday. “You’re gong to see a bunch of them in there playing. I’m not naming a starter right now.”

The players in the race are Luke Del Rio, Felepie Franks and Malik Zaire. Franks found himself at the top of the depth chart coming out of spring practices. Del Rio appears to have closed the gap after recovering from several injuries.
Malik Zaire wasn’t the subject of a highly publicized offseason transfer to end up on the bench.
McElwain has been hesitant to give any information as to who is in the lead of the three-headed race all offseason. Perhaps is a strategic ploy. Maybe he really doesn’t know. Something tells me Gators fans will see all three quarterbacks at some point this season.
Let’s hope for the Gators that they get it all figured out, though, because as the saying goes, when you have more than one quarterback, you have no quarterbacks.
