Stanford basketball announces home-and-home series with UNC

On Friday, the Stanford basketball program announced an exciting future home-and-home series with the UNC Tar Heels.

Stanford will host UNC on Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, before heading to Chapel Hill for the second game of the series on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018. The series holds some special value to Cardinal head coach Jerod Haase.

Before getting his first opportunity as a head coach at UAB in 2012, the 42-year-old Haase spent 13 years as an assistant on Roy Williams’ staff at Kansas and North Carolina.

Haase also played under Williams for the Jayhawks.

“We are excited to compete against college basketball’s elite programs and North Carolina is the cream of the crop when it comes to exceptional programs,” Haase said in a statement. “I have the utmost respect for Coach Williams and the North Carolina program. I have been privileged to have the opportunity to learn under Coach as both a player and a coach myself.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the Tar Heels to The Farm next season,” Haase continued. “The addition of the Tar Heels further strengthens a very exciting 2017 nonconference schedule.”

Stanford and UNC last met in the Preseason NIT back in 2002. The Cardinal are 0-10 all time against the Tar Heels, so they’ll be looking for a monumental win when the home-and-home series tips off next year.
