It looks like new Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman will be reuniting with a former member of his coaching staff.
On Sunday, a report from NJ.com passed along the news that Rutgers offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer is set to leave his position with the team to join Herman in Austin.
Mehringer, who was the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at Houston under Tom Herman during the team’s impressive 2015 campaign, also played quarterback at Rice under Herman before joining his mentor on coaching staffs at Iowa State, Ohio State and Houston.
The 29-year-old is one of the rising stars in the coaching community and was widely regarded as Rutgers coach Chris Ash’s biggest hire.
It appears that Mehringer will become the new Longhorns offensive coordinator, after Herman’s previous offensive coordinator, Major Applewhite, replaced him as the Houston head coach.
