Ryan Leaf sees some of himself in Johnny Manziel

Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf knows all about how your troubles off the field can lead to an incredible fall from grace on the gridiron, so it should come as no surprise that he sees some of himself in troubled free agent signal-caller Johnny Manziel.

Leaf recently discussed Manziel’s bizarre and destructive behavior, saying it is “like holding up a mirror.”

There are certainly similarities between Leaf and Manziel self-destructing their careers, and Leaf said he can understand what is happening to Manziel because it is all too familiar for anyone with an addiction.

“This happens to anybody who’s addicted to anything,” he said on on Fox and Friends Monday morning. “It’s about substance abuse, it’s about whatever you use as a maladaptive behavior … it helps them numb whatever they’re feeling. And I can relate totally to what he’s going through.”

It has been very difficult to watch Manziel throw away all of his natural talent, but there could still be some hope if he gets help sooner rather than later.

Who knows, perhaps Ryan Leaf can sit down and give Manziel an eye-opening talk that would finally lead the former Heisman Trophy winner to get his life in order.
