Iowa State football loses two players

Iowa State wide receiver D’Vario Montgomery and running back Joshua Thomas are no longer on the team. According to Tommy Birch of The Des Moines Register, Montgomery was dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules and Thomas has opted to transfer.

A former three-star recruit from the Orlando area, Montgomery posted 27 catches for 335 yards and three touchdowns in 2015. In time with South Florida and Iowa State, the 6-foot-6, 213 pounder has 77 catches for 1,005 yards and five scores.

Thomas, a rising sophomore from the Atlanta area, appeared in 12 games as a true freshman in 2015 and ran for 295 yards and seven touchdowns. The Cyclones finished 3-9 (2-7 Big 12) and fired coach Paul Rhoads before hiring Toledo head coach Matt Campbell to succeed him.

Just what comes next for Montgomery or where Thomas opts to transfer remains to be seen, but be sure to stay tuned to Campus Sports for any further updates on this story.
