Scooby Wright has sprained foot, out several weeks

Arizona Wildcats star linebacker Scooby Wright has a sprained right foot and will be out for the next “several weeks,” according to coach Rich Rodriguez, whose announcement was reported on Twitter by local sports correspondent Anthony Gimino.

Thus begins a lost season for Wright, who took the nation by storm in 2014, his sophomore season, when he led the nation with 164 tackles (31 for a loss) and five forced fumbles while also posting 15 sacks.

Wright was expected to continue doing great work as a junior, but he tore his left lateral meniscus in Arizona’s season opener against Texas-San Antonio. He missed just two games and returned this past weekend against UCLA, posting seven tackles in Arizona’s 56-30 loss, but now it’s looking like the team will have to continue its quest to win the Pac-12 without its best defensive player.

Needless to say, it’s going to be an uphill battle. Arizona goes on the road to play Stanford this weekend, and the unknown status of star quarterback Anu Solomon remains up in the air following his exit from the UCLA game with a head injury.

The loss of Wright only rubs salt in the wound, so Arizona fans nationwide should cross their fingers that he recovers quickly.

Campus Sports will update Wright’s recovery as any new information becomes available.
