USC LB set to see field for the first time in almost 2 years

As USC prepares for tomorrow’s game against Pac-12 rival Stanford, nobody is more excited for it than senior linebacker Lamar Dawson. Why? Well, this will be his first game back on the field after missing much of the last two seasons due to injury.

Jae C. Hong of The Orange County Register reported the update on Dawson’s status.

Let’s turn the clock back two years, specifically to USC’s game against Notre Dame in South Bend on October 19, 2013. In that game, Dawson suffered a knee injury that kept him out for the remainder of the 2013 season, the subsequent surgeries and rehab also held him out for all of 2014.

To add insult to injury, Dawson suffered broken ribs during practice in August and missed the Trojans’ first two games against Arkansas State and Idaho. But now the former three-star recruit from Danville, Kentucky is back in the saddle and ready to roll on defense. He’ll probably share playing time with freshman Cameron Smith, but that is of little matter. Dawson probably just wants to play again and at his hardest.

He posted 135 tackles (7.5 for a loss), 2.5 sacks and even six interceptions prior to his injury and though coach Steve Sarkisian will want to ease him in slowly, definitely look for Dawson to become an impact member of the Trojans’ defense as the season progresses.
