Tulsa QB Dane Evans ends first half against with a hail mary

In a rivalry that began with Tulsa stealing the show in the early twentieth century, the Oklahoma Sooners have never found themselves looking back since 1979, where the Sooners lead the series since then, 14-1.

But after the conclusion of week three’s game, Oklahoma can tack on one more victory, though it didn’t come easy.

All was well for the Sooners in the first quarter – the offense clicked on all cylinders and the defense refused to surrender any yardage or points to the Golden Hurricanes. But for some reason, another story unfolded by the likes of a supernova from Tulsa’s offense that unleashed 21 points to Oklahoma’s 14 in the second.

Tulsa would have final possession leading into halftime that was capped off by a 43-yard hail mary from quarterback Dane Evans (34-of-51, 427 yards, 4 TDs) to receiver Keevan Lucas (5 receptions, 84 yards, 2 TDs) that trimmed Oklahoma’s lead to one possession as both teams trotted into the locker room at a score of 31-24.

Afterwards, Tulsa continued to nip at the heels of the Sooners well into the second half – a game that totaled 1,200 yards and 71 first downs in a combined effort. Maybe that negates the performance Oklahoma’s defense conjured up in the first quarter, allowing just seven points, but either way, Oklahoma walked away with a 52-38 win and will start preparing for next week’s match-up against West Virginia.
