Toledo suspends two players for first two games of 2015

The Toledo Rockets have suspended two players for the team’s first two games of the 2015 season for what is being called a violation of team policy. Per ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, those two players are running back Kareem Hunt and defensive end Allen Covington.

A junior from the Cleveland area, Hunt established himself as Toledo’s go-to running back as he rushed for 1,631 yards and 16 touchdowns across 10 games. Were it not for an ankle injury that kept him out of three games, those numbers would have been higher.

Covington, a senior from Tampa, proved to be a valuable member of the defensive line last season. In two seasons on the field with the Rockets, he has 55 tackles (9.5 for a loss) with 5.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.

Just what part of team policy they violated has not been made public, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that both players will be missed.

Toledo has gone 26-13 (18-6 MAC) in three-plus seasons under coach Matt Campbell and opens the season at home against the CAA’s Stony Brook Seawolves on Thursday.
