TE Taylor McNamara Will Transfer to USC

The Oklahoma Sooner tight end position got a little less crowded Monday when fourth-year player Taylor McNamara announced that he is transferring to the USC Trojans.  McNamara will be a graduate transfer for the Trojans and will be eligible as soon as he graduates from Oklahoma.  The former four-star recruit announced his information in three consecutive tweets.

Want to thank everybody @ OU for a fun 3 years. Furthest thing from a easy decision to leave, but @ the end of the day I felt it was best..for my future. I’ve made great friends who I will keep in touch with after I graduate in May. Excited to say though, I’m headed back to..so cal, and will be a Trojan come July.

USC has only three players listed at the position on their current roster and among the group they have , there are only three career catches for a total of 16 yards.  This provides McNamara an opportunity to have an instant impact on one of the top programs in the country and possibly generate a name for himself so potential NFL suitors come knocking. McNamara has only one career catch, but did see game action in 11 contests during the 2014 season. The door is wide open for McNamara and the incumbents to compete.

In 2014, the Trojans finished 9-4 in head coach Steve Sarkisian’s first season at the helm.  Still, the offense struggled at times to generate offense from the tight end position where competition is certainly welcomed in hopes of giving quarterback Cody Kessler another option to throw to on passing downs.  Meanwhile, the Sooners lose a potential starter at the position to one of the top programs in the nation.
