Syracuse dismisses leading receiver from 2013

Though Syracuse Orange running back Ashton Broyld led the team with 52 receptions for 452 yards in 2013, he won’t be with the team for his senior season in 2015. According to a statement from head coach Scott Shafer, as was reported by John Taylor of NBC Sports’ College Football Talk, Broyld has been dismissed from the team for what is being called a violation of team rules.

Broyld, despite being listed as a running back and lining up in that position, finishes his time at Syracuse with 74 receptions for 679 yards, plus 173 rush yards and a touchdown. A former three-star recruit out of Rush-Henrietta Senior High School, near Rochester, injuries limited him from reaching his full potential.

No further reasoning has been given for Broyld’s dismissal, but Campus Sports will update this story if more information becomes available.

Syracuse opens the season at home against Rhode Island on September 4.
