Suspended DL Ishaq Williams Readmitted to Notre Dame

Just days after KeiVare Russell announced he would be returning to Notre Dame after serving a year long suspension, the Fighting Irish received some more excellent news. Defensive lineman Ishaq Williams has been officially reinstated by the university following his suspension for academic dishonesty.

According to College Spun, it was first reported by Pete Sampson of Irish Illustrated that Williams would be returning to the university immediately via Twitter.

The announcement comes after Eric Hansen of the South Bend Tribune reported that Williams’s father expected him back at Notre Dame this summer. Whether or not the lineman would return to the team is still up in the air. With the 85 scholarship limit drawing very close, it seems as though Notre Dame may not be giving Williams a spot on the team, especially if he is ineligible per NCAA standards.

When asked if Ishaq had work to be done in the classroom this summer to re-establish his football eligibility with the NCAA, Shaun Williams replied via text message, “I don’t know anything about that, to be completely frank.”

Williams was projected to start at defensive end for the Irish last fall before the suspension. He currently has forty-five tackles and one sack with thirty-five appearances and one start in his career.
