J.T. Barrett Sprains MCL, But Should Not Miss Time

The train of injuries to Ohio State quarterbacks just keeps on running.

J.T. Barrett suffered a sprained MCL during the team’s 31-24 overtime victory over rival Penn State. Still, head coach Urban Meyer does not feel the injury will affect the redshirt freshman in the long run and plans to have him for Saturday’s match up against Illinois. Barrett, however, will be limited much of this week and don’t expect him to take many first team reps during practices.

“He’s got a sprained knee, MCL, but obviously there’s no surgery or anything. I think he will be limited,” Meyer said.

Barrett suffered mightily as a passer through much of last week’s game, it was his legs that did much of the damage racking up 75 yards and two touchdowns. Those statistics don’t even show the level of heart displayed by the young gunslinger as he marched the Buckeyes down the field before ultimately scoring the game-winning touchdown.  If any further news is to break on Barrett, expect to hear it within the next couple of days as Saturday’s game quickly approaches.

Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes don’t want to look ahead, but it is essential that they keep their starting quarterback healthy for a pivotal game against the eighth ranked Michigan State Spartans. Besides that, it could be smooth sailing as the team hopes to qualify for the Big Ten Championship and a potential spot in the College Football Playoff.
