Patrick Towles ‘feeling lucky’ on UK championship chances

The Kentucky Wildcats have not won a national championship in football since 1950 when legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant was at the helm in Lexington. The team is looking to get back on the upswing over the next few seasons, but one player is looking to be much more involved when it comes to the College Football Playoff.

ESPN’s College Gameday Twitter handle posted this season’s national championship odds on Monday afternoon. The tweet poked fun at the Wildcats saying that their chances at winning the title are currently 500/1.

Wildcats’ quarterback Patrick Towles took offense to the tweet and decided to show his displeasure. It looks like he really likes his team’s chances of competing this season.

The Wildcats have not won a national title in over six decades. To even be considered for the CFP coming out of the SEC, the Wildcats are going to have to win the conference, which they haven’t done since 1976 and have only done once before then.

I’m not saying the Wildcats have zero chance of winning the SEC and competing for a national title, but the odds are literally pretty slim. They could play spoiler throughout the season, but they still seem a few pieces and years away from being in the elite of the nation.

The Wildcats open the season on September 5 when they host Louisiana-Lafayette.
