Ole Miss WR Laquon Treadwell Out For Season

Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell broke his fibula and dislocated his ankle while being tackled from behind against No. 3 Auburn. Treadwell was inches away from  scoring the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

The Associated Press confirmed the injury after speaking with an Ole Miss spokesperson. The devastating injuries will keep Treadwell out for res of the season.

Not only did Ole Miss lose the game, but they also lost their best offensive player. Treadwell had recorded 48 receptions for 632 yards and five touchdowns this season, leading the team in all categories.

This is the second week in a row Ole Miss has suffered a conference loss and one of their leaders due to injury. In their 10-7 loss to No. 19 LSU, the Rebels lost Denzel Nkemdiche to a broken ankle.

What does this mean for Ole Miss?

The losses to Auburn and LSU and the injuries to Treadwell and Nkemdiche incredibly hinder Ole Miss’ chances to play in the SEC Championship or make the College Football Playoffs.

Unless the miraculous five-way tie for the SEC West goes according to plan, it looks like Ole Miss will be competing to play in the best bowl game possible.

Receivers Vince Sanders and Cody Core will now be quarterback Bo Wallace’s main targets. Wallace is going to have to make better decisions and the defense will need to play like the way they did before the LSU game if Ole Miss wants to finish the season off on the right note.

Head Coach Hugh Freeze will have an interesting couple of months ahead as he will be in the conversation for head coaching jobs around the country. Consistent success isn’t likely sustainable in Oxford and historic programs such as Florida or Michigan could come calling.

The Rebels still have Presbyterian, Arkansas, and in-state rival (1) Mississippi State left on their schedule. They will look to ruin Mississippi State’s season in the Egg Bowl.
