N.C. State’s Trevor Lacey intends to declare for NBA Draft

N.C. State Wolfpack star guard Trevor Lacey announced Wednesday that he intends to enter the 2015 NBA Draft.

In his junior season, Lacey was phenomenal, averaging 15.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while guiding the Wolfpack into the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet Sixteen.

“I would like to thank the coaching staff, university and fans for a wonderful experience the last two years at NC State, but I’d like to declare for the NBA Draft,” Lacey said. “I had a great group of teammates the last two years and they’ll always be like brothers to me. This has been the toughest decision of my life but I feel like pursuing this new journey in my basketball career is what is best for me.”

Lacey, who missed last season after transferring from Alabama, was among the Atlantic Coast Conference’s top scorers, however, isn’t viewed as a sure fire draft pick.

This uncertainty is the primary reason the All-ACC Second Team selection has not signed with an agent and will use the next two weeks to reevaluate his draft stock with potential NBA suitors.

Still, Lacey possesses some of the best one-on-one scoring in the entire NBA Draft and this skill is extremely popular among team executives.

On the other hand, N.C. State went from a preseason top 25 team to now having to replace their top overall player.

Even if head coach Dave Doeren is able to successfully replace Lacey, the Wolfpack remain a likely bubble team and will have to battle the difficult ACC without their signature scorer.
