Michigan LB Joe Bolden has no regrets about tent spike

Michigan Wolverines linebacker Joe Bolden drew ire from Michigan State Spartans fans when he drove a tent spike into the field of Spartan Stadium before the team’s game against one another last year, but he has zero regrets about his actions.

Speaking to reporters at Big Ten media days this week, Bolden explained just why he did what he did.

“Simply motivation that backfired, got blown out of proportion in a way, so it is what it is,” Bolden said when asked about the incident during Big Ten media days this week.

“Things were said, and somebody said they ran the ball when they wanted to take a knee, well, I’m a competitor, it’s a rivalry football game, I”m running the ball, too,” Bolden said. “If I’m a head coach I”m running the football. I have the utmost respect for coach Dantonio and his staff.”

Spartans quarterback Connor Cook did not feel the same way, saying that he and his teammates felt disrespected and thus played angry en route to a 35-11 victory.

Despite that, Bolden doesn’t appear to be fazed one bit. When the two teams meet again on October 17, expect there to be tons of fireworks.
