Mark Tollefsen transferring to Arizona

The Arizona Wildcats finished out their 2015-16 men’s basketball roster throughout the day on Friday. First came the official announcement that center Kaleb Tarczewski was returning for his senior season.

Now, the final piece to the puzzle is in place with San Francisco transfer Mark Tollefsen heading to Tucson.

The 6-9 forward averaged 14 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last year for the San Francisco Dons. Tollefsen, who will be a graduate student, will be eligible immediately for Arizona.

The Wildcats will be losing four of their five starters from last season after the early departures of Stanley Johnson, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Brandon Ashley plus the graduation of point guard T.J. McConnell.

Tollefsen is a much-needed forward to help replace Ashley and Hollis-Jefferson. Sean Miller will also have Boston College transfer Ryan Anderson eligible in the front court, and brings in Chance Comanche in the 2015 recruiting class.

Arizona needed some experience to stay at an elite level next season, and pulling in a transfer like Tollefsen certainly does that. He’s also shown he has the stamina to play substantial minutes if need be, averaging 31.3 minutes per contest in the 2014-15 season for USF.

Even though Arizona has another scholarship open, Sean Miller said on Thursday at Stanley Johnson’s press conference that the coaching staff was looking to add just one more player in addition to the impending return of Tarczewski. So this should be it as far as roster changes for the Wildcats before next season.
