The University of Kentucky has issued Drake a cease-and-desist letter after he took pictures with some recruits at the school’s “Big Blue Madness” event. Kami Mattioli of The Sporting News reported the story.
Kentucky ended up self-reporting Drake’s activities, which included “impermissible contact” between himself and three “potential-student-athletes.”
Per the letter Kentucky sent to Drake, he and his management team were told that any seemingly arranged contact with any potential recruits would constitute a recruiting violation. Athletic directors even went to lengths to ensure that none of the three PSAs who were attending the event crossed paths with Drake in the hallway.
But that didn’t stop Class of 2016 commit Charles Matthews, who came upon Drake by chance and simply requested a picture with him.

Kentucky thus self-reported a Level III violation, part of which was sending a letter to the NCAA explaining the cease-and-desist sent to Drake.
I’m sorry, but this just seems a bit ridiculous. Though Drake could technically be considered a recruiting “ruse” in this case to help attract recruits, to do everything possible to keep him away from recruits is a bit much, even for the NCAA.
