Kansas Adds Former Texas A&M Receiver Laquvionte Gonzalez

The Kansas Jayhawks didn’t exactly have the best day at their spring game Saturday, losing their projected starting quarterback to injury. However, Sunday brought some good news.

Former four-star wide receiver out of Cedar Hill, Texas, Laquvionte Gonzalez, tweeted that he will be transferring from Texas A&M to Kansas.

Gonzalez has not put up monster numbers in his two year with the Aggies, hauling in just 26 catches for 317 yards and two touchdowns, but the Jayhawks are thin at the position after losing their top three receivers from last season.

National sports writer Kevin Flaherty of 247Sports thinks Gonzalez is a good pick up for the Jayhawks.

Gonzalez was the 30th-ranked player out of Texas and the 13th ranked athlete according to Rivals. Current Kansas head coach David Beaty was the wide receivers coach at Texas A&M when Gonzalez was recruited. He actually played in all 13 games as a freshman, but only eight this past season.

He announced his decision five days ago without giving a specific reason, although it was speculated it mostly had to do with the Aggies’ depth at wide receiver.

Beaty obviously likes what he has seen in Gonzalez, but he will not be able to play until the 2016 season and will have two remaining years of eligibility.

Here are some high school highlights of Gonzalez.
