Jernard Jarreau To Graduate, Transfer To Oklahoma State

Washington Huskies big man Jernard Jarreau will graduate in June and then transfer to Oklahoma State. Terry Tush of GoPokes.com reported the story. Jarreau will be immediately eligible to play for the Cowboys.

A 6’10”, 240 pound power forward, Jarreau averaged 24.3 minutes per game and posted 5.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 42.2 percent from the field. It was his first season back from ACL surgery.

Regarding his transfer, Scott Phillips of NBC Sports’ College Basketball Talk elaborated a bit further.

With Oklahoma State returning a few big men with minimal career production, this is a nice addition for head coach Travis Ford. The Cowboys return 7-foot-0 senior-to-be Anthony Allen and 6-foot-9 sophomore-to-be Mitchell Soloman but both of them were small-time contributors last season. Incoming junior college transfer Igor Ibaka didn’t play basketball last season. Jarreau gives them more security on the interior and his defensive versatility should help.

According to Tush’s report, Jarreau could also appeal the NCAA for a medical hardship waiver after the 2015-16 season after an ACL tear caused him to miss almost all of the 2013-14 season.

Even with Jarreau able to play last year, the Huskies were just 16-15 (5-13 Pac 12) and missed the NCAA tournament for the fourth consecutive season. He will now join an Oklahoma State team that went 18-14 (8-10 Big 12) in 2015 and has made the big dance three years in a row.
