Jahvoni Simmons Picks Virginia

Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, Virginia) linebacker Jahvoni Simmons spurned offers from the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Miami (FL), Ohio State and Virginia Tech to stay in his home state and play his collegiate ball at Virginia.

Simmons was not the only linebacker to make the decision. Woodrow Wilson (Washington, District of Columbia) linebacker Kareem McDonald also committed to Virginia.

Simmons is the biggest get yet for head coach Mike London who is quietly embedding the program with talented players. Last year the Cavaliers reeled in two five-star prospects, safety Quin Blanding and defensive tackle Andrew Brown.

CavsCorner.com spoke to Simmons about his decision.

“I decided to go to Virginia because of the way coach (Mike) London goes about everything,” said the 6-foot, 230-pound Simmons. “He’s a great coach but he’s also a great person. It was a great visit when I was up there and my family and I feel good about everything he was telling us. We feel like this is the best decision.”

Academics played an important role in choosing Virginia.

“The academics at Virginia can take you a very long way in life,” Simmons said. “It’s one of the top schools in the country. Campus life is great and everybody treats you like family. I can just imagine want it’s going to be like once I get on campus.”

According to Rivals.com, Simmons is the No. 105 prospect in the country and is fourth overall for his position.
