Iowa State lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Fred Hoiberg needed heart surgery and now there’s more negative news in Ames.
Shooting guard Naz Long underwent his second hip surgery (torn labrum) in five weeks and is expected to miss three to five months, according to The Des Moines Register.
The 6’4″ rising senior from Mississauga, ON averaged 10.1 points per game, 2.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and shot 45 percent from the field last season. Long has improved his minutes and scoring average in all three seasons that he has been a member of the Cyclones program.
Long won’t participate in the team’s trip to Spain but is expected to be ready for the November 13th opener against Colorado.
Iowa State is expected to be a top five team with Long, Monte Morris, Jameel McKay and Georges Niang returning along with Deonte Burton becoming eligible after a transfer.
