Iowa State AD Urges Calm Over Fred Hoiberg’s Status

Just where Iowa State Cyclones head men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg will be next season remains up in the air, and school AD Jamie Pollard wants fans to calm down since nothing is set in stone yet.

You see, Hoiberg has been linked to a potential vacancy with the NBA’s Chicago Bulls, with whom he spent four seasons during his 10-year NBA career. The Bulls have yet to decide on where they stand with current head coach Tom Thibodeau, so saying that Hoiberg will definitely make the jump is pure speculation at this point.

Speaking to Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register, Pollard reiterated what he knew and urged fans to remain calm.

Later on Wednesday in Clear Lake, Pollard urged fans to “take a step away from the ledge.”

“I recognize it’s tough on you guys, it’s tough on the players (and) it’s tough on the fans,” Pollard said.

It’s been tough on Pollard too.

“Would I say I’m not stressed by it?” Pollard asked. “That’d be not telling the truth but at the same time, it is what it is and we’ve just all got to deal with it — you, me, the players and the fans.”

Hoiberg, an Iowa State alum, has brought the Cyclones back to national prominence in his five seasons with the team. He is 115-56 over that stretch and has led the team to back-to-back Big 12 championships, turning the program from a lower tier team into a regular title contender.

Campus Sports will update Hoiberg’s status as more details become available.
