Indiana dismisses Emmitt Holt, will discipline Thomas Bryant

The Indiana Hoosiers’ basketball roster just continues to grow smaller and smaller as the offseason progresses. The team announced that they have dismissed their third player since the end of May on Monday.

According to Inside the Hall, the school dismissed Emmitt Holt for being cited internally for illegal possession of alcohol. The school announced that freshman Thomas Bryant was involved with Holt’s citing and he will be disciplined as the team sees fit.

The school released the official statement, which can be read below.

Sophomore Emmitt Holt has been dismissed from the men’s basketball program effective immediately for demonstrating exceptionally poor judgment in the circumstances surrounding his recent citation, particularly coming after his involvement in the Devin Davis accident which should have motivated him to make better decisions.

Freshman Thomas Bryant, as a result of his citation, is receiving internal team discipline and is subject to additional discipline for any future failure to live up to his responsibilities to the program.

Holt joins Devin Davis and Hanner Mosquera-Perea as the third player to be dismissed from the Bloomington school since May. Holt had already been suspended for the team’s two exhibition games and the first two regular season games as well for a car accident that seriously injured Davis earlier this year.

Holt, who is only 19, was believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.

Mike Miller of the Herald Times reported that Indiana AD Fred Glass said the decision was completely head coach Tom Crean’s to make.

It looks like the Hoosiers could be in a bit of trouble once the season rolls around this year.
