Illinois guard Mike LaTulip to redshirt next season, graduate

Illinois combo guard Mike LaTulip will redshirt during the 2015-16 season and is expected to graduate next spring. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported the story.

A native of Mt. Prospect, Illinois near Chicago, LaTulip was never able to crack head coach John Groce’s rotation in three seasons and averaged only 1.2 points in just under three minutes per contest.

In those three years, Illinois went 62-42 (24-30 Big Ten) and made the NCAA Tournament once, in 2013.

It is unknown just where LaTulip will transfer, but he should be eligible to play immediately in 2016-17 if he does indeed graduate next spring. On top of being unable to get significant playing time, chances are he’s redshirting/leaving the program due to incoming freshman guard Jalen Coleman, further clogging up minutes at the position.

Just what LaTulip’s next step will be remains to be seen, but Campus Sports will update this story as more details become available.
