Georgia Tech Loses Top Two Running Backs

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets hold one of the premier rushing attacks in all of college football and will be put to the test Saturday when they will be without two of their top threats due to injury. Zach Laskey and Charles Perkins were ruled out on the team’s Thursday injury report due to a plethora of injuries. Laskey has been dealing with shoulder problems while Perkins is struggling with a knee injury.

Both of the injuries occurred in recent weeks. Laskey injured his knee two weeks ago against North Carolina and Perkins went down very early in the team’s game against Pittsburgh.  Laskey has been the most productive of all Georgia Tech running backs, carrying the ball for 595 yards while Perkins in second with 261 yards. The two have combined for five touchdowns as well.

The depth of the team’s running back position will truly be put to the test when the Yellow Jackets square off against Virginia- who holds a top 40 defense. Georgia Tech has four difficult games remaining, including two contests against Georgia and Clemson to wrap up their 2014 campaign. The 6-2 Yellow Jackets remain in contention for a spot in the ACC Championship game, but must overcome the injuries of Laskey and Perkins to do so. The two likely replacements for the duo are Synjyn Days, who led the team with 110 yards against the Panthers, and Broderick Snoddy. Snoddy already surpassed his career total, rushing for 82 yards against Pittsburgh.

Still, quarterback Justin Thomas will shoulder most of the offensive load as the team hopes to build momentum off of their 56-28 win over the Panthers.
