Gamecocks Pick Up Baseball Commitment

The South Carolina Gamecocks have picked up another signing for their recruiting class in third baseman Joey Polak.

Polak, a rising junior, is a 6-5 210 lb. righty.  He is already known as a power hitter, and will add a much needed pop to the Gamecock lineup. He is the 32nd ranked prospect in the nation, according to PerfectGame.com, and received a perfect ten scoring by Perfect Game in a recent showcase. A player who receives a 10 is thought to have potential for a very high draft pick, top-D1 caliber prospect. Some other notable players who received the grade are Prince Fielder, Freddie Freeman, BJ and Justin Upton, Clayton Kershaw and Mike Trout. The kid is in good company.

In his sophomore year at Quincy Notre Dame High School in Quincy, Illinois, Polak hit .533 with four home runs, 12 doubles, one triple and 49 RBIs, leading his team to the Class 3A regional championship.

The next step for the Gamecocks will be convincing Polak to honor his commitment and not sign in the MLB Draft, where he will (more than likely) be a first round pick. This is a good sign for the Gamecocks, as they continue to be one of the most dominating baseball programs in the country.
