Elijah Thomas Committs to Texas A&M

Texas A&M head coach Billy Kennedy has absolutely dominated the recruiting circle this summer, collecting his third ESPN Top-100 recruit for the class of 2015.  Center Elijah Thomas will join the Aggies, rated the 29th best player in the country. The Lancaster (TX) native chose Texas A&M over Oklahoma State, Illinois, SMU, and LSU.  Over the last six weeks, Thomas visited each of the above schools and ultimately decided College Station was the best fit..

Thomas spoke to ESPN.com about why he selected the Aggies.

“They were the first school to offer me a scholarship. On my official visit, when I saw their academic system, I loved it. And third, I felt the system, relationship with the committed players, coaches — especially head coach Billy Kennedy — and the current players.” He continued, “They’re a huge family, and I want to be a part of something special. I feel like we can win a national championship my freshman year. That was the deciding factor.”

Thomas becomes coach Kennedy’s fourth top recruit, with the most recent addition being Thomas’ childhood friend- Admon Gilder.  This was seen as just another reason why the Aggies were the perfect fit, but Thomas said, “It was just a perk.”

The 2015 recruiting class could catapult Kennedy and the Aggies among the elite college basketball programs, with a serious chance of contending for an NCAA Championship appearance.  Still, its Kennedy’s job to keep the players in school and continue to play at the highest level.
