Duke’s Jela Duncan set for first game action since 2013

At long last, Duke Blue Devils running back Jela Duncan is returning to the football field. Per coach David Cutcliffe, Duncan will see early action in tomorrow’s game against Georgia Tech. John Taylor of NBC Sports’ College Football Talk reported the update.

Duncan missed most of summer camp with a torn pectoral muscle, which also kept him out of Duke’s first three games. But the story goes deeper than that.

Duncan missed all of last season while on academic suspension and was reinstated back in January. A former three-star recruit out of Charlotte’s Mallard Creek High School, he has posted 1,115 rush yards and seven touchdowns along with 32 receptions for 212 yards and a touchdown.

He will surely be a welcome addition to the Blue Devils’ rushing attack, though he will probably see limited time this weekend since he has been away from the game for a year and has rust to shake off. Given how quarterback Thomas Sirk currently leads Duke in rushing yards, with Shaun Wilson leading running backs with 179, Duncan’s return could not be timed better.

Hopefully, he can be an impact player down the stretch as Duke looks to make noise in the ACC this season.
