Dolph Ziggler defeats Rusev thanks to Summer Rae

Thanks to unintentional interference from Summer Rae, Dolph Ziggler defeated Rusev tonight at Night of Champions.

It started with some lightning speed action from both, primarily with Ziggler going after Rusev and rolling him up before the Bulgarian Brute escaped the ring for a break. Once he came back, however, he put Ziggler in a headlock, which the Show-Off escaped before unleashing a dropkick and then attempting a sleeper hold.

Further offense from Rusev resulted in a pinfall attempt, followed by a Ziggler kickout and then a stomping from the former United States Champion. Ziggler eventually rolled out of the ring to regroup.

Rusev then rolled Ziggler back into the ring and unleashed some more offense, grabbing the former champion by the hair and just having his way with him.

Ziggler finally countered with a rollup, but Rusev kicked out and then tried to pin Ziggler himself. The action continued as Rusev continued to berate Ziggler for stealing his ex girlfriend Lana (currently out with a wrist injury), but then the tides turned.

Ziggler slammed Rusev to the ground before getting sent into the corner with a shove, and the action continued when both men got up and Ziggler landed multiple shoulder tackles. Rusev countered with a spinning slam, only for Ziggler to kick out. Rusev then got rolled up twice before being hit with Ziggler’s signature Famouser, made famous by Billy Gunn, but kicked out.

It all appeared to be over when Rusev hit Ziggler with a big kick, but Ziggler barely kicked out in time. What followed was Rusev attempting another kick, only for Ziggler to duck and jump on his back and lock in another Sleeper Hold. That didn’t work, so Ziggler tried a DDT. But the action still continued after he failed to pin Rusev.

Rusev got up on wobbly legs, but managed to hit Ziggler with a big kick. Ziggler kicked out again, but Rusev thought he won and celebrated. The referee told him what really happened, Rusev argued with the timekeeper, and Ziggler lay motionless. Finally, Rusev got ready to lock in the Accolade, but Ziggler suddenly woke up and hit his opponent with a Superkick. Rusev kicked out of yet another pinfall attempt as both lay exhausted.

Rusev’s new lady love, Summer Rae tried getting involved and leaned over the ropes to cheer her man on, only to fall into the ring when Rusev threw Ziggler into the ropes. She was subsequently ejected from the ring, only to throw a fit and throw her shoes, one of which hit Rusev in the head.

Cue Ziggler’s Zig-Zag, 1-2-3 PIN.

Hopefully, this feud is over despite the match being respectable. Though Summer Rae did not leave Rusev for Ziggler despite off-screen drama involving the two, there is little reason to continue this despite Ziggler being due a heel turn.

Then again, I guess the next step will be covered on Raw tomorrow night.
