Damyean Dotson getting ‘second chance’ with Houston

Former Oregon guard Damyean Dotson is set to return to the court, but he won’t be reprising his role in a Ducks uniform.

SI.com reported that Dotson is set to sign a letter of intent to play for the University of Houston next season. Dotson, who has reportedly been taking classes at Houston Community College following his dismissal from Oregon, is player eligible for another two years.

Going to the AAC Cougars seems like an ideal fit simply because Dotson is a Houston native, but it is also what the college athlete is reportedly calling a “second chance.”

For those unfamiliar with his background: Dotson was kicked off of the Ducks last May when he and two other players were accused of sexual assault by a female student. Charges were not pressed due to “lack of evidence” and a lawsuit against Oregon has followed.

Dotson, in the meantime, told the Houston Chronicle that in addition to taking classes that he has “worked with John Lucas, who battled addiction and now runs a recovery program to assist athletes.”

Dotson said in a recent interview of the opportunity to play at Houston:

“I believe this made me stronger, made me wiser, made me mature even quicker than I should have been. Just thinking about what can happen. How quickly things can be taken away makes me enjoy just being successful, just getting a second chance.”
