Compliance issue costs LSU guard Australia trip

When the LSU Tigers men’s basketball team takes its long-anticipated trip to Australia later this month, it will be without guard Josh Gray. Per Sheldon Mickles of The Advocate, Gray appeared in a game for a league that was not sanctioned by the NCAA and “not vetted by LSU’s compliance department.”

“We had a little bit of a setback with Josh Gray playing in some type of game that wasn’t sanctioned prior to checking with our compliance people,” head coach Johnny Jones told The Advocate. “Until compliance goes through whatever issues that they have to and filter things out, I won’t have any further comment on it.”

Gray averaged 7.1 points and 3.8 assists for the Tigers last season, his first with the team after transferring from junior college. With Tim Quarterman expected to run the point this year, Gray will have to compete with freshman Antonio Blakeney and returning starter Keith Hornsby for playing time this year.

With him missing a trip to Australia over something as insignificant as this, which could have been taken care of so long as Gray communicated with LSU’s compliance office, he probably isn’t going to win any favor with the coaching staff.
