California loses potential starting center

The California Golden Bears offensive line took a major hit Thursday when it was announced that likely starting center Matt Cochran has left the team, according to Jeff Faraudo of the San Jose Mercury News. No specific reasoning was given for the departure, but it is believed that Cochran will remain a student at California.

What makes the situation even weirder is the fact that Matt’s brother, Aaron, is a sophomore lineman for the team and has not said anything regarding the decision.

Over the last two season, the older Cochran had played in 13 starting four and was expected to be a major anchor for the unit.

Nonetheless, head coach Sonny Dykes will need to find a replacement as soon as possible and the top two candidates appear to be either Addison Ooms and Michael Trani.

The Golden Bears have high hopes entering 2015 and need all the help they can get after a 5-7 2014 campaign.  California opens the season against Grambling State at home on September 5.
