Austin Hatch will serve as student assistant at Michigan

Austin Hatch has had a remarkable journey to the University of Michigan, after surviving two plane crashes, surviving a coma, and losing his immediate family. Hatch has always dreamed of stepping foot on the court at Crisler Arena during a regular season NCAA Basketball game with “Michigan” on his jersey, and that dream became a reality this season.

Now Hatch will be moving forward in his basketball career in honor of his father. He will be taking a medical scholarship to focus on his studies, but will also maintain a role in the program as an student assistant.

“As I have progressed through this first season, I know I am not where I want to be, both academically and athletically,” Hatch said, according to UM Hoops. “My priority is academics and I feel that it is in my best interest to devote more time to my studies. This decision honors my father, and it is something that I know he would agree with and be proud of me for making.”

“Basketball has always been a huge part of my life, however, it is what I play, not who I am, Hatch said.”

Hatch played in five games this season and scored one point that he will remember for the rest of his life.

Good luck to Austin Hatch as he continues his journey.
