No. 2 Recruit, QB Malik Henry Chooses Florida State

Over the last two years, almost everything has seemed to go right for the Florida State Seminoles football program. A two year undefeated streak and National Championship have the Seminoles riding high, but the team remains in a major battle off the field. The ‘Noles are aiming to bring in the top recruiting class for 2016 and took a major step Thursday when number one ranked quarterback, Malik Henry, committed to the school. Henry made it official during ESPN’s “College Football Daily” and seemed super excited about his decision.

“I felt comfortable around coach Jimbo Fisher. I think he’s a great quarterback coach, he knows his stuff and their offense is explosive,” Henry said. “I think I can see myself in their offense.”

Henry is a physical specimen standing at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, and has the ability to make almost any throw on the field. The California native chose Florida State over national recruiting powers Auburn, Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee, Texas and USC.

There was no exact timetable for Henry’s expected commitment, but after narrowing his choices down to Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and UCLA and taking unofficial visits to the first two, it became apparent that the Seminoles and Fighting Irish were the front-runners.

“It was a tough decision, but I finally realized it was Florida State a week or two ago, after talking to coach Fisher and reminiscing about my trip there,” Henry told ESPN.com. “I felt comfortable at Florida State and around Tallahassee.”

Despite being the number two prospect in the 2016 class, Henry has to continue to improve with two top quarterback recruits in Florida State’s 2015 class. Still, Henry appears very similar to that of Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston seeing as Henry plans to play both baseball and football at the next level.

During his sophomore season, Henry threw for an exceptional 2,362 yards and 21 touchdowns against 10 interceptions and so far in 2014 he has accounted for 1,932 passing yards and 15 touchdowns against four interceptions.
